New pet!

Let me introduce you to our new pet. His name is Szörnyeteg Lajos (smthng like Louis the Monsterous), he is named after a character in a Hungarian tale and that lion is a very nice and generous and shy character, just like mine.  (he likes to put his head a bit to the left side, then he is even more cute)

I crocheted the lion in approx 5 hours from the book Dierenvriendjes haken (:=how to crochet pet friends). This is the amigurumi method which is quite simple (=boring), it is built up only from single crochets and chains. The interesting part is that the ends of the rows are not visible, so you have to use markers and you have to count your needles. So no chance of watching a movie during crocheting.
Bute the lion is sooo cute, since he is ready I carry him with me everywhere.

He is cute, isn't he? :)

Things for an almost-teenager

In 2005-2006 I used to work as an au pair in Holland. Since then the children has grown a lot and for 2 years I hear from them regularly again. As we are friends with the girl, recently we went shopping together. She chose herself some (pink) beads and asked me to make something for her. Princess. :) The bracelet is the bonus just to  have the surpirse-effect.

És most nosztalgiából megosztom a következőt (áááá). Just for being nostalgic, herewith I share the following video we used to listen to every day.

Bag for non-rainy days

Na hát ilyen fölülről /This is how it looks from above

Eleje/The front

 Hátulja/The back

This bag was in progress for more than 2 years. The first version was ready quite soon but I didn't like it, so some months ago I began to work on it again. I started with it when I moved to Holland and I was looking for a job, so the main parts were finished very soon, the I found a job so it needed to be finished quickly.
I did not work according to a pattern, I found a picture of a similar bag on the net (which I previously saw in a shop but I couldn't afford to buy it). Looking at it now, at that time I thought that while crocheting you only have to crochet to the upper half of the previous chain. But it looks OK, it gives a kind of rounded edge for the rows.
This week it's summer here, so I can wear it all the time.

New bag for an unused gadget

A végére horgoltam két kis horgolt zsinórt, nehogy kicsússzon. De ugye mikor csúszna ki szegény...

Just not to forget knitting I designed (nice word) a new cover for my e-reader. I hoped that if it gets a new bag, I will tend to use it more. No, I don't.
The cover is made of a rainbow yarn with stockinette stich. Between 2 squares which had almost the same width I added a vateline square for filling. I crocheted all of them together. To the opening I crocheted 2 short line, just to provide the e-reader from sliding out. But it does not really have the opportunity to slide out at all as I keep it somewhere on my bookshelf...

Nagyon szívesen várok tippeket, hogyan lehetne magam rábírni a használatára. A könyvajánlóknak külön örülök. / I am more than happy to receive recommendations how to get used to this gadget...And if you can recommend me a good book it's even better.

Book update: I will not finish Den Doppelgaenger (I tried for 120 pages, after such a distance I can say that it's crap), so I exchanged it from the spare list to the Murder on the Eiffel Tower. This one I will finish but it's difficult to find something entertaining after reading the Hunger Games Trilogy within 2 weeks.

Good Idea

Inherited/gifted old pendants and earrings, one wire-pendant from Kricsár, dominant pearls and despite all of this chaos, togehter they look quite OK.

We are talking about stealing ideas in cases only when the writer doesn't mention the original owner of the idea. In creative blogs this is slightly different, this is called inspiration and sometimes the owner is also linked. SO this is my "inspired" necklace. I saw it on Coline's blog and I think it's a very good idea. Finally I can use all the nice things a could not use before. Wearing this with a plain black sweater gives the desired effect.

Golden days

We went to a party whit the dress code "some golden touch". As you may have noticed, I don't wear gold at all and have never made anything in that colour. So it was time to make something goldish and still stay within my style line. Here it comes:

And this one is made for the birthday of a nice colleague. Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, Chris!
Book update: Life of Pi is finished during Easter Holidays.

The ultimate gulyás recipe

This is how it looks like when ready

Having international friends and colleagues I regurarly get the usual questions about the gulyás. ['Guja:s] If it is Hungarian or German, if it is a soup or a stew, if you eat it in a loaf, in a normal or in a deep plate, what do you serve to it, rice, potatoes or pasta. This is my own version, how I saw it and learnt it at home and learnt all the vocabulary for it. For instance if you say "alágyújtani" it means to start the fire outside under the special pot to be able to make THE gulyás.

If you are a tourist in Hungary and ask for gulyás, you will most likely get a soup. This is the lighter version of the stew with some pasta, potatoes and water added and cooked for another half an hour.
The gulyás you mean is called pörkölt ['poercoelt] and is the stew. It can be made of beef, pork, chicken and all kinds of inner parts of these animals (not at once, only one sort of meat in one dish). The most easiest is made of pork.

The original pork stew - sertéspörkölt is made outside on open fire in a special bowl called bogrács ['boGra:tS]. As you can not really adjust the heat and volume of the open fire, you have to be very careful during the whole process. But once did it, the next time it will be peanuts.

If you are Hungarian and have a garden you most likely have a bogrács in the house. If you don't have it, you know someone who has that. My hometown a long time ago had a major who was really oveweight. He was cleverly playing on this image to be able to get in the news with all kind of celebrity news. So once he announced that he wants to get in the Guiness Book of Records by cooking gulyás in the biggest bogrács ever. So in my hometown in a big square once we ate gulyás from a 1000litre bogrács.
And if you are a tourist around the Balaton lake and order pörkölt or  gulyás soup in a restaurant, you will get it served in a mini-version of the bogács. That looks cool.

So much about history.

To be able to cook pork stew - sertéspörkölt for 2 people at home, you will need the following:

100g of bacon OR sunflower oil for the ones on diet
1-2 normal onion
2 slices of garlic
red pepper powder (the best from Hungary, from the region of Szeged)
1 teaspoon cumin (this can be avoided if you don't like the taste)
400 g of pork meat cut in cubes - the more fat on it the better it tastes
2 tomatoes
1 paprika (white or red, important is that it's sweet)
water
salt, pepper

HOWTO:  Put the bacon in a large pot on low fire and wait until it becomes fluid. Or heat up the sunflower oil. Cut the onion in small pieces and bake them in the fat. The more onion you use the thicker the sauce of the stew will be. Add the garlic. Add salt Add the cumin .Add 2 spoons of paprika powder (normal spoon, not the one for the tea) and add 1/2 glass of water very quickly. (if you burn the paprika powder, your stew will be bitter! so to be sure, you can change the order, first water, then paprika powder). Cook it till the sauce bacomes thicker. Add the meat and as much water that it covers the meat. Cook it covered on low fire till the meat is tender (approx 40min). If you are sure it's almost OK, cut the tomatoes and the paprika into slices, put it into the stew. The dish is ready when the tomatoes lost their skin.
Serve it with fresh bread or cooked potatoes.

Loveit.
